These DBQs were fairly insightful. They utilize and analyze the documents much more effectively than I do. They also put in so much more outside information. Even for the outside information, they use some hard facts and real names of things instead of just references to them. Basically what I need to do is just to incorporate more relevent information and utilize the documents better.

These essays were very helpful to examine. I payed especially close attention to the first essay about FDR. The author used almost all of the documents and a great deal of accurate outside information. In the anilization of the documents the author did an excelent job of relating them to the topic as well as making relations to outside life and looking deaper into the subject. I need to work on this aspect of the DBQ. I also liked how the conclusion sentace was aranged. I was short and quaint. It drew everything together very well. This is a big weakness for me. This excersise is very helpful in improving my DBQ writing.

i think that these essays were helpful. They had a lot of good information in them and brought in a ton of outside stuff. Of course that doesn't help us when we are writing our essays only because its after that we realize that we should of added something. but they were good examples for us to follow and try to model our essays after.

Where the class is now down to the wire and the test is coming soon analyzing these documents was a needed activity. The DBQs all are percise and too the point. They use outside info, the provided documents and add no pointless sentences or information. An extra skill was just learning a variety of ways to word sentences and close and open paragraphs. That will help how well my DBQ flows. The best lesson was learning how to write differently with different questions types such as analyzing, comparing, assesing, etc. We all know how to write but studyig these DBQs like studying any other information helped me learn the skills better.

I am sooooo SCREWED!! thanks again Mr. B. for pointing this out. The authors of these DBQs do a nice job of tying in the documents, and still making their essay's flow. They also do a nice job getting to the point, and keeping them simple, but I also feel that they are leaving out some outside information that might have helped out their documents a little...... wouldn't they want to include these?

These essays were very helpfull in understanding how to make a good essay. They flowed very well. Better then i can. They tied in the documents very well too. They didn't go out of their way to add information to the documents, it was just in the right place and seemed to flow very well. They also used alot of outside information. The authors of these essays have to know alot about what they are writing about. They have to do alot of research and put together things and information in a DBQ.

Ummm...Well as Sarah put it, I am soooo freakin' SCREWED!!!
Anyway, I thought the DBQ's were exceptionally well written. Many of the students used almost all of the documents AND included outside information. I am just confused about how to write a strong intro paragraph, because some of the essays included a thesis at the beginning, while others were at the end of the intro. I know that you mentioned in class that the essay was supposed to begin with the thesis, but does it really matter? Also, are the DBQ people looking for solid facts and/or thurough explainations, because most of these essays just had solid facts, good facts, but not a whole lot of explaining.
So, I guess these essays were helpful, now I know I am completely going to fail the AP test, but ya know no big deal right?

Yeah, so these DBQ’s are pretty well written while being to-the-point...etc. I noticed some very minor errors that may need improvement:…some of the documents used weren’t necessarily in order within the paragraphs (probably not a huge deal). In the third DBQ, the prompt tells them to write about the 60’s AND 70’s and he/she only mentioned the 60’s in the intro but later talks of the 70’s. I also noticed that the seventh DBQ contains a lot of little paragraphs, (good or bad?) in which the writer could have grouped more ideas into a larger one, (but this one did contain a lot of strong outside info). More specifically, I noticed that one DBQ throws in an idea taken from a document and does not support it. Overall, though, these DBQs seemed to be in the 7-9 range of scoring.

Well, if i was an actual AP US student, i would strive to write an essay like these. they brought together a lot of information and organized them in an orderly fashion. they also used a lot of outside information that should use.

....if only we could use these DBQs as our own, or as a guideline for upcoming essays.....

reading these DBQs helped with the structure of the essays and what kind of outside information to add. yet, these arent going to help in a real, test taking situation...

From reading these essays I better understand how to write and organize my own. At the beginning of the year I had been writing things like "Document B shows that..." or "In Document A it says..." and then I read some sample DBQs (like these ones) and started to use the documents better by simply referencing them. Also, after reading these I think that I need to work on improving my intro and conclusion paragraphs. These authors are much better at them than I am. So anyway, I find that reading DBQs like these is very helpful for me.

In glancing through the different questions, I was most intruiged by question number 8. I studied the period of the 60's in english class and thought it might be interesting because I already had some knowledge on it (And becasue Document A is the theme song of my favorite show). The intro is rather short, but the author makes up for this in his body paragraphs. There is SO much outside information in this essay. The student puts NO jelly beans in the clam chowder whatsoever.

I don't like the citation of Document A, because they should have thrown in there again that American's DIDN'T all live perfect lives because that's the whole point of the song.

The conclusion doesn't particularly strike me because it's basically just rephrasing the main idea of each paragraph.

Woah. i wish i didnt suck at AP US and could write a DBQ like that. The synthesis of outside info and the documents is beautiful. the specificity of the information pushed the argument of the essay.

The thing i noticed the most about these essays was the opening paragraphs. they gave the basic information as to what the essay is about but in general terms. they don't give away all the information, but just enough to draw you into the essay. after that they become more specific and give a lot of outside information, as well as analyze the documents to their full extent. reading these essays was very helpful, they were very well written, and i know that i need to work A LOT harder on my essays if i want them to be even close to the quality of these.

A few specific parts of the essays responses to the DBQ's that I noted was first, the author made sure to include significant figures adressing them by their first name and elaborated upon their specific contribution to the DBQ which got right to the point. I also noticed that the writer included specific dates in the middle of the essay to site the revlance of time during the time period. Finally I found it interesting in how the author of the essay wrote about the economical, political and social impact of the DBQ but made a point not to fade off on one subject and to stick to the point of the article/essay. It's always interesting to compare your work with others especially after you've already taken the AP test.

The essays were extremely insightful, considering I derived a few notes from them on facts that I had never heard of before. They certainly utilized a lot of otside information, facts that i'm not sure i could summon on call like that but the test is soon and we'll see.

I wish that I had read these DBQ's prior to the exam because they would have been instrumental in demonstrating what i needed in my own DBQ. The essays were really well written and contained not only information from the documents but also solid outside information. It is also good to see how people answer different questions (analyze, assess, evaluate, etc). The questions are also about different time periods so they will also be helpful on the multiple choice because of the plethora of information. These essays would have been a tremendous help on the exam.
